RESTON VA – In recognition of its greatly expanded mission, one of the country’s most respected companies supporting education with technology has changed its name. The not-for-profit Network for Instructional TV, Inc. (NITV) is now The Source for Learning, Inc. (www.sourceforlearning.com). NITV was created in 1979 to advance the effective use of instructional video, especially in underserved schools. Since then, the organization has earned acclaim for its expertise in the productive use of technology in K-12 and early learning settings—not only video but the newest technologies that can make teaching and learning more effective. The company has created innovative, non-profit web-based learning resources that are used in every state and more than 50 countries. TeachersFirst.com supports K-12 classroom teachers with technology tips and extensive online content; PreschoolFirst.com is valued by early learning professionals in preschools, Head Start centers, and Pre-K programs; and TeachersAndFamilies.com offers a wealth of resources developed by teachers for students and their parents. The name change to Source for Learning reflects the depth and breadth of these offerings. Source for Learning’s services—many provided at no charge—are supported by a novel funding mix. Administrative costs are covered by royalties derived from excess capacity on the company’s licensed broadband educational channels. Donations from generous individuals and organizations help to expand the educational offerings and create new services. Steven J. Gorski, President and CEO of Source for Learning, said, “We’re proud of the benefits we provide to thousands of teachers and families. Building on the vision and talents of our Board and staff, we’ll soon be announcing a new service that will make Source for Learning an even more significant force in online learning resources.” The Source for Learning’s services can be found on the web: www.teachersfirst.com, www.preschoolfirst.com, and www.teachersandfamilies.com.
