SFL Releases TeachersFirst 3.0

Reston-based non-profit The Source for Learning, Inc., [SFL] has released a major upgrade to TeachersFirst.com, its free web site for K-12 teachers. TeachersFirst 3.0 includes an improved user interface, new features for teachers who have a free TeachersFirst membership, quick access to the most popular features, and easy to use collaboration tools that allow teachers to share and learn from one other.

Candace Hackett Shively, SFL’s Director of K-12 Initiatives, commented, “For over thirteen years, TeachersFirst has given teachers a reliable way to find electronic resources that can make a difference in teaching and learning. Our content is all written by experienced teachers who know the demands of the classroom. As a result, TeachersFirst helps our users envision how technology resources can be used effectively in their own classrooms. TeachersFirst 3.0 expands on this commitment with new features that help our users find the best ideas and resources more easily so they can use them in support of learning.

In addition to its growing collection of nearly 13,000 reviewed resources, TeachersFirst 3.0 offers improved search and tagging features, reformatted resource listings including the newest web tools, faster response times, and an extensive library of original content for all grades. TeachersFirst’s OK2Ask™ professional development series offers real-time, interactive collaboration sessions on the effective infusion of technology as a tool for learning.

Steven J. Gorski, SFL’s President and CEO, noted, “When we created TeachersFirst in 1998, most K-12 teachers were inexperienced with the Internet. SFL made a commitment to help them learn how to use the Internet for effective teaching. Our release of TeachersFirst 3.0 reinforces that commitment to give teachers a free resource that highlights the best content and practices using technology as a tool for teaching and learning. It’s a mission that we take very seriously.”

TeachersFirst.com is available without charge; membership is also free. The site has users in North America and over 100 other countries.
